The hillside was a typical one for the area, filled with green grass, the occasional tree, and the sound of chirping birds. Every morning, Thankee, a young boy of nine, would rise from his bed and race up the hill, eager to explore. Every day he’d discover something new and exciting, whether it was an animal he hadn’t seen before or a plant he didn’t recognize.

On one particular morning, Thankee stumbled across a small group of children playing by a pond. He watched them with curiosity, wishing he could join in, but he felt too shy to approach. That was when he heard a voice from behind him; it was gentle, though a bit unsure.

“Would you like to join us?” the voice said.

Thankee looked up and saw a small girl with auburn hair, her face filled with kindness. He smiled, feeling a bit more brave, and he nodded his head.

The girl introduced herself as Uma and she welcomed him to the group. The group was made up of children of all ages, and they shared stories, jokes, and snacks with each other. As the day went by, Thankee had a great time and he felt like he belonged.

At the end of the day, Uma came over to him and asked, “Do you plan to come back tomorrow?”

Thankee wasn’t sure what to say, so he simply nodded. Uma smiled and said, “Well then, let’s all say it together: thank you Thankee!”

Hearing the kids say his name made Thankee feel warm inside. From that day forward, he made sure to come to the hillside every morning. He loved being part of the group and appreciated their kindness.

One day, Uma asked him why he was so grateful for their friendship, and Thankee replied, “You welcomed me when I felt shy and alone. You showed me that I can make friends and belong in a group. That’s why I’m thankful for you.” Uma smiled, understanding perfectly.

The moral of the story is that kindness and acceptance are gifts everybody needs. Through them, we can create strong and lasting friendships. We should always be grateful for those who show us friendship and love, and remember to show kindness to those who seem shy or alone.
