One day, a group of travelers arrived in the kingdom with a strange claim. They said that they were from a land far beyond the horizon, where there lived a wise and all-knowing being named Rishi Vishwamitra. According to them, Rishi Vishwamitra had predicted that a great catastrophe would befall the kingdom of Akbar, and the only way to prevent it was to offer a sacrifice of a thousand goats at his temple.

The king was skeptical of their claim, but they seemed so earnest in their plea that he decided to consult his wise advisor Birbal. Birbal, being a man of great wisdom, immediately smelled something fishy in their story. He decided to investigate further by visiting the temple of Rishi Vishwamitra himself.

Upon arrival, he found that the temple was in a state of disrepair, and there was no evidence of any prophetic activity taking place there. He realized that the travelers were simply trying to scam the king and the people of his kingdom.

Birbal, being a man of great wit, decided to teach the travelers a lesson. He told them that he had a solution to their problem, but it would require them to perform a complicated ritual involving a sacred fire and a thousand pebbles.

The travelers, believing that this was the key to their scam, agreed to perform the ritual. They spent the entire night gathering a thousand pebbles, and just as they were about to light the fire, Birbal interrupted them.

He revealed to them that the thousand pebbles were actually a metaphor for a thousand good deeds that they must perform to earn the favor of the gods. He also explained to them that Rishi Vishwamitra was not a real person, but merely a pseudohistorical figure that they had made up.

Feeling disillusioned and ashamed, the travelers left the kingdom of Akbar and were never heard from again.

The king was grateful to Birbal for saving his kingdom from being scammed, and he declared him to be the wisest man in all the land.
