Once upon a time, there lived a young boy named Jake who suffered from severe allergies. He would often get a really itchy feeling on his body, especially on his arms and legs. One day, Jake decided to go to the park to play with his friends.

But every time Jake tried to have fun, the itchiness would be too much to bear and he would have to stop and scratch himself like a madman. All the other children would laugh at him, but Jake was too embarrassed to tell them why he was scratching so much.

One day, Jake noticed a caterpillar on one of the trees in the park. The caterpillar was constantly scratching its back, almost like it had a terrible itch. Jake watched the caterpillar for a few moments, until it suddenly occurred to him that this caterpillar must also be feeling the same thing he was feeling.

So Jake went up to the caterpillar and spoke to it. He said, “I know what it’s like to be itchy. It’s no fun, is it?” The caterpillar looked at him in surprise, and then nodded its head. Jake smiled and said, “Let’s make a deal. I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine”.

The caterpillar looked at him with surprise and then nodded again. So Jake started to scratch the caterpillar’s back, and the caterpillar did the same to him. After a while, they both stopped scratching and they both felt relieved.

From that day onwards, every time Jake went to the park he would look for the caterpillar and they would scratch each other’s backs. In return, the caterpillar would make him smile with its funny little antics.

The moral of this story is that we can all help each other out, no matter how small the task may be. Even if all we can do is scratch each other’s backs, it is still an act of kindness that can make a difference. Never underestimate the power of a small act of kindness.
